Relief Distribution to Persecuted Christians, CHIBOK Borno State | April 2025

From 2nd to 20th of January 2025, the Boko Haram militia launched repeated attacks on Chibok in Borno State. In the wake of the attacks, five Christian communities were displaced, abandoned by fleeing residents. Consequently, the tense atmosphere hindered the Lay Faithful Trust Foundation from providing relief to the people of Chibok. In March, our members made plans for a humanitarian effort to the Christians under siege. This support initiative eventually took off in early April.

The journey from Maiduguri to Chibok took over ten hours by road, due in part to several thorough security checks. When the Lay Faithful Team arrived at the first gate of Chibok at 6.22 pm, they were turned back. Brutal attacks by the terrorists have forced a curfew that shuts the gate at 6.00 pm. There were no exceptions - not even for a peace mission.

The team had to make an alternative arrangement in another settlement before darkness fell.

The paranoia in Chibok was so thick, the team only entered undercover the following day. After gaining admission, security officials searched the relief materials yet again before distribution was permitted to the famished brethren.

Lay Faithful was able to attend to 106 households - not even a third of the more than 300 in desperate need of help.

Agriculture is the primary occupation of the people. Knowing this, the Boko Haram militia intentionally looted harvested grain from the deserted communities. Anything left over, they cruelly set ablaze to starve the Christian locals even more.

There are other heartbreaking reports that cannot be responsibly shared for the sake of our brethren's safety. Let it suffice to report that they desperately require more assistance now; particularly as another farming season begins.

In addition to physical and financial support, the Christians in Chibok plead for our prayers. The trauma of the Chibok Girls' abduction have left open wounds. But, the enemies refuse to grant them even a semblance of respite. The attacks are constant, cold-blooded and barbaric in every conceivable manner. Please, pray for Chibok.

We thank all the brethren who contributed clothes, caps, travel mugs, and money to purchase the foodstuff for this aid mission. We eagerly hope to revisit the community to support their farming efforts. We also thank the Lay Faithful Team that executed the project in Chibok.

God bless you all.

Your brother in Christ,

Bosun
