SHEEP IN THE MIDST OF WOLVES

Standing with a Bereaved Christian Family and Community in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State

“Is my crime that I speak for widows who have no voice? Is my crime that I cry for orphaned children whose parents were murdered?”

These are the words of Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, a Christian minister who has continued to speak courageously about the suffering of Christians in Nigeria, even when doing so has placed his own life and family at grave risk.

HE SPOKE FOR THE VOICELESS

When Rev. Dachomo stood in the huge pit dug as a mass grave for Christians murdered in Plateau State, he did something that required extraordinary courage. He stood before the world and spoke about the suffering of communities that had lost their loved ones to violence. He spoke for widows. He spoke for orphaned children. He spoke for families whose homes and livelihoods had been destroyed.

He refused to remain silent.

His testimony challenged the counter-narrative that there was no genocide against Christians in Nigeria. He called attention to the reality faced by persecuted Christians living under repeated attacks. But speaking for the persecuted Christians came at a terrible price.

THEY CAME LOOKING FOR HIM

On 12 July 2026, Fulani terrorists came to Rev. Dachomo's home. According to reports, they asked:

“Where is the father of this house?”

Then, they opened fire. Nine members of Rev. Dachomo's family were killed — including a two-month-old baby. The very man who had been speaking publicly about the killing of innocent Christians now had members of his own family taken from him.

As of the time of this report, no one had been arrested in connection with the killings. And Rev. Dachomo still refused to be silenced. He said:

“Is my crime that I speak for widows who have no voice? Is my crime that I cry for orphaned children whose parents were murdered? Is my crime that I tell the stories of persecuted Christians in Nigeria so the world will not forget them? Is my crime that I preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and refuse to remain silent while innocent people are killed? If that is my crime, then I will continue until my last breath.”

Those words should cause every Christian to pause.

One of our brethren has suffered the loss of nine members of his family, including an infant, because of the violence that continues to afflict Christian communities. Yet he remains determined to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

WE COULD NOT LOOK AWAY

Christian Social Movement of Nigeria (CSMN) and Lay Faithful Trust Foundation resolved to stand with Rev. Dachomo and his community. On 13 August 2026, a delegation led by the CSMN Zonal Chairman for North Central travelled to Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, to express our condolences and solidarity. Lay Faithful Trust Foundation provided the funds for the relief intervention.

A cash gift of ₦500,000 was presented to Rev. Dachomo, together with food supplies—including rice, maize, beans and palm oil—for distribution among members of the affected community. The assistance cannot replace those who were murdered. It cannot bring back the tiny two-month-old baby. It cannot erase the memories of that terrible night. But it carries another message:

“You are not forgotten.”

It tells a grieving family that other Christians remember them. And it tells those who are enduring persecution that their brothers and sisters in Christ are standing with them.

A MOMENT OF TEARS

When the CSMN delegation delivered its message of condolence, Rev. Dachomo was visibly moved. He could not hold back his tears. For a man who had stood publicly amid mass graves and spoken courageously about the suffering of others, this was a deeply personal moment. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation to CSMN and Lay Faithful Trust Foundation for coming to stand with him and his community at such a painful time. But behind his tears was something much larger than gratitude for food or financial assistance. It was the comfort of knowing that someone cared enough to come.

YOUR GIVING MADE THIS POSSIBLE

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, this intervention was made possible because you gave. You may never meet Rev. Dachomo. You may never visit Barkin Ladi and you may never see the families who receive the food purchased with your contribution.

But your generosity travelled there.

And perhaps most importantly, your giving became a simple but powerful message to persecuted Christians:

“We see you. We remember you. You are not alone.”

The Scripture teaches us to “remember those in prison as though you were with them” (Hebrews 13:3).

Our suffering brethren may not all be behind prison walls. Some are living in communities where fear has become part of everyday life. Some have buried their parents, children, husbands, wives and siblings. Some have lost their homes and means of livelihood.

They need more than our sympathy. They need to know that the Church remembers them.

WE APPEAL FOR CONTINUED CHRISTIAN SOLIDARITY

The needs of persecuted and displaced Christians across Nigeria remain enormous. One relief intervention cannot solve the problem. But every act of compassion matters. We therefore appeal to our brethren to continue supporting the humanitarian work of Lay Faithful Trust Foundation, so that we can reach more families and communities experiencing persecution, displacement and hardship.

We pray that God will bless every donor who made this intervention possible. Thank you for standing with our suffering brethren. May God bless you and replenish you abundantly.
